Despite the recent cold weather, now is one of the most dangerous times for wildfires....why? Because of the wind that comes along with it.
"When we have high winds it uh...it one, spreads fire faster and secondly, dries out the natural vegetation quicker.
That's why South Eastern portions of the state are under a no-burn order. This means that residents are to refrain from burning trash outdoors but burning trash isn't the only issue when it comes to wildfires.
It may seem like a harmless practice, but something as simple as flicking this cigarette butt out on this busy roadway can be quite dangerous when it comes to wildfires. You see all it takes is a little wind to pick up that lit cigarette butt and turn this wooded area behind me into an inferno.
"It reduces the humidity and causes the potential for fire spread to be much greater ." Not all people follow no-burn orders so it's best to be proactive. The best precaution you can take is to get your home insured. That way is you come face to face with a wildfire your reaction can be simple.
"The first thing they need to do is contact their nearest agent or any service center and file a claim on the policy." And if you have insurance the process to get your property replaced is easy.
"We'd get the claim filed, an adjuster would be in touch with them so they can determine the total loss."
Making an otherwise stressful situation...manageable.
