Houston County Sheriff's Office Hopes for Higher Budget in 2014

The Houston County Sheriff's Office is hoping for a bigger budget this year.

Sheriff Andy Hughes says although the department has increased revenue it still lacks proper funding.

That's why he's asking county commissioners to carefully consider this year's budget.

“We've had to dip into our discretionary funds to make sure all surfaces that we need to provide to the citizens of Houston County are still being accomplished and we need more money to operate,” said Sheriff Andy Hughes.

Sheriff Hughes says the budget has decreased from nearly $11 million to 9 million since he took office.

That's why he's looking at state grants to help buy new equipment.
