Houston County Gets New Garbage Truck

Houston County is rolling out its new automated garbage truck next week.

The truck you're seeing here isn't the new truck, but it is similar.

Madrid residents will be the first to experience the new truck.

Residents still need to sign up to get their garbage cans.

They can do so at Madrid Town Hall or in the temporary Houston County Administration building in the old Mayer Electric Building in downtown Dothan.

The trial run will last several months.

"We’ll find out if there are any issues that we can't overcome, we don't anticipate that. We think it's going to be really good for the whole county," said Houston County Commission Chairman Mark Culver.

If residents don't sign up, after a few weeks their trash won't be picked up.
