Houston County Commissioners Set to Vote on 2012-2013 Budget

Houston County commissioners will soon approve the county's 2012-2013 budget.

The county is required to have the new budget approved by October 1st.

Houston county commission chairman Mark Culver says the new budget is in the 35-36 million dollar range but the exact figure will be presented on Monday.

Culver says overall the county is better off this time around.

"The good news is though at the end of the budget we project a fund balance a reserve. This time last year we we're looking at a 3.3 million dollar fund balance this year we're looking at 5.8 million or a little less than that, so significantly better."

Culver says the surplus is because revenues have started to recover, expenses and personnel have been cut and county department heads have kept cost down in their areas.

Commissioners are set to vote on approving the budget at Monday's 9/10 meeting.
