BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (AP) -- Defense attorneys say an Alabama man didn't do anything intentional to cause his wife's drowning death during their honeymoon eight years ago.
An attorney for Gabe Watson told jurors Tuesday that the death of Tina Thomas Watson was an accident caused by a "perfect storm" of events. But Brett Bloomston says the 34-year-old Watson didn't want anything bad to happen to his wife of 11 days.
Bloomston denies prosecution claims that Watson was a highly trained rescue diver who should have been able to save Tina. Instead, he says the couple were both "very inexperienced" with scuba, and she got into trouble at a very dangerous shipwreck on the Great Barrier Reef.
Watson already has served 18 months in prison in Australia after pleading guilty to manslaughter.
