OPELIKA, Ala. (AP) -- Authorities say they have begun a homicide
investigation following the discovery of a child's skull in
Opelika.

The Columbus Ledger-Enquirer reports (http://bit.ly/Ad0MXU) the
skull was found Jan. 28 by a resident of Brook Haven Trailer Park.

Police say a search of the area led to the discovery of more
human remains on Jan. 30 and Feb. 1. Authorities say that evidence
was found about 50 to 75 feet from where the skull was discovered.

Authorities say a preliminary investigation of the remains
indicates that the person, likely a child younger than 10, died
"by homicidal means."

Police say the race, gender and exact cause of death of the
person are unknown.
