Homeless Stand Down Provides Winter Necessities

Dothan, AL- Homeless in the Wiregrass got some help preparing for the winter.

Hundreds arrived empty handed to the Alfred Saliba Family Services Center in Dothan Saturday morning, but they didn't leave that way.

If you would like to donate clothing, blankets, shoes, or money to help the homeless call Russell Clausell at 334-447-1286.

The Southeast Alabama Coalition for the Homeless sponsored a Homless Stand Down.

Volunteers helped people fill their bags with clothing, coats, blankets, and shoes.

People were also able to get canned food, personal hygeine items, and even stuffed animals.

"We want to reach out and provide the necessary items, coats and sleepbags. You've seen babies and kids coming in with flip flops on, and of course it is cold outside. It's very important that we're able to reach out," said Russell Clausell, Southeast Alabama Coalition for the Homeless President.

Hair cuts were also provided.
