(Dothan, AL)--A survey shows most Americans would rather die at home than in a hospital. Hospice community relations worker Teresa Thomas said the polls outcome isn't surprising.

"People who are in hospitals, they don't want to be in a sterile environment," Thomas said. "We've noticed with a lot of our patients don't want to be lonely and want to be surrounded with comforting people," she said.

According to a recent government study, hospital deaths have decreased by 32 percent since 2,000. Patients who are eligible for hospice are referred by their doctor; at-home hospice care is usually around 6 months.
