Parents are about to begin the scramble for the next hot toy their child can't live without.
But popular presents aren't easy to find once the holidays are underway.
So even though your child's thoughts might still be on Halloween, now's the time to figure out what he or she wants and start shopping.
But if the old adage 'history repeats itself' is true, one toy in particular will be especially hard to find closer to Christmas.
"One of the hottest selling Christmas items from the past is making a comeback. You guessed it. It's the Furby!"
"When you pet him, he laughs. And he talks. I saw it on TV."
"This toy is one of the hottest toy's going right now, especially for the younger kids. They really like it because they can intermingle with it. Every child's Christmas wish right now is the Furby."
And with many Americans struggling financially, consumers will be looking to special layaway programs for all of those holiday gifts like the Furby, or more expensive items like televisions.
And that works for Kathy Harden, who says she's on a tight budget this year.
"A lot of people don't have the cash to pay for it and putting it on layaway and making installment payments, that's the best thing that's ever happened."
Fortunately, this year stores are making it easy to shop early, with layaway services and other offers.
Places like Toys-R-Us, Wal-mart and Kmart have dropped fees, minimum balances and other requirements to make it easier to use layaway programs.
So even if you don't have the cash yet, you can still start your holiday shopping.
