There are a few tips fire department officials have.

They say to keep a clean cooking space and to focus what your doing.

They say it is easy to get distracted with family and other holiday festivities but to stay aware to avoid a harmful situation.

If you are thinking of frying your turkey for Thanksgiving, officials say along with making sure it is completely unthawed.

There are other tips to remember.

"You never fry a turkey inside your home or inside your garage, you want to do it on a grass or dirt area that's obviously not combustible like a wood deck or something of that nature, " says Chris Etheredge, Battalion Chief at Dothan Fire Department.
