Northern Spain experienced heavy snow fall on Monday (January 14) and Tuesday (January 15) which caused several road blockages and led to a number of schools being closed.

The National Meteorological Agency (AEMET) has put 23 provinces on alert for snow, wind and rain.

AEMET put Navarre on the maximum red alert and LLieda an Huesca on orange alert, one level lower.

In Pamplona, where snow also fell, authorities are monitoring for floods near the Arga River.

AEMET forecasts 19.7 inches of snowfall in the Pyrenees in Navarre, and 7.9 inches for parts of Pyrenees in Lleida.
