It’s hard to be away from home, especially during the holidays, but for patients at Dothan’s Health South spending the holiday season at the facility became a little easier on Monday.
Mayor Mike Schmitz spent part of his afternoon surprising patients at Health South with a gift basket of goodies.
“It is just a little holiday cheer that all of them will get and receive from our Mayor to have in their rooms during the holiday season. Our patients are usually here over the holiday season and so it gives them a little extra holiday goodies for their room during the holiday season,” explained Will Craig, Director of Marketing Operations at Health South.
While the baskets were a gift to the patients, Mayor Schmitz says the patient’s reaction are a treat for him.
"Actually I get more out of it than they do,” said Schmitz. “It is really such a joy to do this and an honor."
Giving patients baskets of goodies has become a tradition for the Mayor. This is the third year he has stopped by Health South to give a gift on behalf of the City of Dothan.
