Some local middle school students are taking a stand against gangs.

It was all part of the Gang Resistance Education and Training program (GREAT).

It is a 13-week program for the sixth and eighth graders about peer pressure and how to say no to gangs and drugs.

Landscape work and beautifying the school was one part of this program.
Headland Lieutenant Dennis Cobb said, “One of our lessons is about our communities and our neighborhood and how to make them a better place. And how to deter some of the crime that goes along and this is just one step to make our neighborhood here at Headland Middle School a better place.”

This is the seventh year of the program in Headland the only one here in Southeast Alabama.
