Dothan, AL, September 13, 2013 – Mental and substance use disorders and the many pathways to wellness in the Wiregrass area must be addressed. The month of September is a great time to get awareness underway, as it has been proclaimed, National Recovery Month.

To promote the widespread national observance, SpectraCare Health Systems and Harvest Church have joined together to host a free showing of the nationally acclaimed film, HOME RUN on September 20th.

HOME RUN stars Scott Elrod, Dorian Brown, and Vivica A. Fox. The film depicts the struggle of addiction and the freedom that is gained in recovery.

There will also be information available for those who may need assistance in identifying resources for prevention, treatment, or recovery support services.

The event will emphasize the importance of seeking physical and mental wellness and maintaining hope that recovery can be achieved. It is critical that people experiencing mental and/or substance use disorders receive the support they need from the community. This event is designed to engage the community in the recovery process, and promote the idea that behavioral health is essential to overall health, prevention works, treatment is effective, and people recover.

In 2011, 45.6 million people aged 18 or older had a mental illness according to the 2011 National Survey on Drug Use and Health, an annual survey released by the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA). However, only 31.6 million people received mental health services. In addition, 20.6 million people were classified with substance dependence or abuse in 2011, and 3.8 million people aged 12 or older received treatment for a substance use disorder.

The film will be shown September 20th at 6:30P PM at Harvest Church, 2727 Fortner St, Dothan, AL. The film is rated PG-13 and all are welcome.
