Harri Anne Smith Donates Historic Buildings to City of Slocomb

Senator Harri Anne Smith is giving back to her home-town in a big way. She turned over the deeds for two of the city's empty buildings--at a dedication ceremony Saturday afternoon. They are located in downtown--- one is the Old Slocomb National Bank--the other is a former movie theater--so old, it actualled played Gone With the Wind.

Smith's family has owned the historic property for a while, but she says it's time for something new that will revitalize the area. City Council couldn't agree more.

“Our goal is to make sure that every building is usable. And we don't want to demolish any of the buildings because there is so much family history in the buildings. so we want to make an effort to restore everything that we can,” said Mayor Pro Tem Lisa Sconiers.

The project's first step will be collecting funding and money so they can move forward. To do this, leaders will apply for state and federal grans to fund renovations. There’s no word yet on how much the total project will cost. Leaders still have to do an assesment.
