One point two million Americans have HIV.
Just a fifth of them know they have the virus.
Out of that number, six percent are teenagers.

Jennifer Beck is a senior at cottonwood high school. She has already been through the focus program and knows it can make a difference.

"The biggest thing I got from it this year was, the leadership skills, and me being a senior this year, I really try to be a leader towards the little kids," says Jennifer Beck.

Thousands of teens have been affected by the virus.
That's why the focus program decided to make sure children are educated about it to promote prevention.
One of the stops, the wiregrass.

"Right now we are working hard to bring the program to the particular area. It is a free project that is funded through the department of health, we are in about two hundred high schools across the state of Alabama," says Sharlene Key Assistant Director of The Focus Program.

Not only is the group discussing HIV prevention for Houston county schools, but they also are taking a look at other risky behaviors, which include texting while driving.

"Texting and driving those numbers are really high, both students and parents are texting and driving," says Sharlene Key Assistant Director of The Focus Program

Risky behaviors that the focus group wants to prevent in every wiregrass teenager.

Pete key has created a song to further promote HIV prevention. The music is directly targeted to teens.

"The song is educational, it’s encouraging, and it's also empowering. We use music as a tool to educate and empower," says Pete Key, Founder of OP Key Incorporated,

Empowering a generation to make sound decisions.
