Gulf Shores Authorities Focus on Safety after Fatal Accident

A fatal accident in Gulf Shores over the weekend has authorities there focusing on safety.

19-year-old Kasey Waychoff was killed when she was run over in a bike lane.

Police say the suspect, 29-year-old Justin Lott didn't stop when he hit Waychoff.

He's been arrested and charged with DUI, leaving the scene of an accident and manslaughter.

Police say combatting underage drinking is a priority. Lifeguards aren't authorized to make beach-goers show their id's. They patrol to prevent bottles being broken in the sand.

Leaders say Alabama's beaches are marketed as family friendly. Police say they've beefed up patrols and are enforcing a no leniency policy.

Rental property owners are also required to get inspections before leasing under a new ordinance.
