MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) -- The first wave of guilty pleas in a multi-state dog fighting investigation is scheduled this week in Alabama.
Four people are due in federal court Monday in Montgomery. The four are Michael Martin of Auburn, Ala.; Jennifer McDonald of Fairburn, Ga.; Sandy Brown of Brownsville, Ala.; and Robin Stinson of Elba, Ala. They filed court papers last week saying they want to plead guilty. More defendants are due in federal court Tuesday and Wednesday to enter guilty pleas.
Federal officials filed charges against 14 people last year from Alabama, Georgia, Mississippi and Texas. They were accused of supplying dogs or participating in high-stakes dog fights in east Alabama. Federal investigators seized more than 400 pit bulls.
