Midland City, AL - He spent nearly a week in an underground bunker after being snatched off a school bus. Police rescued Ethan just days before turning 6.
Now a simple idea on Facebook has hundreds of people raising money for one very special birthday gift, a week at Disney World.
"There's no better place for a child. It's just the happiest place on earth. There's everything he could want as a child," said Anna Owen.
Owen and Carrie Kreps started the Facebook page Saturday.
"I have a kindergarten boy as well. We're five miles down the road from the scene. Just any mother can relate to what that mother had been going through. We wanted to do something fun for all of them to look forward to," said Owen.
Once Ethan was back in his mother's arms the online fundraising campaign began. Owen said Ethan's family has accepted the offer.
Jeremy Lee with Wiregrass Travel is helping to plan the trip. He can't think of a better gift for the boy.
"Disney does everything bigger and better. From the fireworks, to light shows, to the rides and characters," said Lee.
Within 24 hours they met the goal of $7,000 and had more than 700 likes on Facebook.
"It's mind boggling, and I think it's a story of social media too of how quickly things can go from Dothan, Alabama, to London, England. With someone who wanted to donate to a child in our community who has been through something tragic," said Owen.
Now they are focused on sending Ethan to Disney as a VIP. Any money left over will go into a trust fund.
