Grandview Elementary Jumps Ropes for Hearts

The go red for women movement raises awareness of heart disease in women and Grandview Elementary School is participating by jumping ropes for hearts.

All of the 2nd through 5th graders jumped rope during their gym period in hopes of raising money for the American Heart Association. Grandview has been doing this for several years now. Each student was asked to bring at least five dollars in donations, which will total out to nearly two-thousand dollars. If a student raised at least $15 they will have the opportunity to throw pies at coach miller.

“We know the statistics regarding the youth in Alabama, we know that they need to be active. We know it's a lot of factors that venture off from having heart problems. Diabetes is one of the risk factors so it's very important that our students are healthy as exercising, eating healthy and things like that," said Tamika Fleming, the Grandview Elementary principal.

The go red for women campaign raises awareness and helps Individuals take action to reduce their personal risk for heart disease.
