Gov Rick Scott Wants New Tests

Florida Governor Rick Scott wants to change the way students are tested.

Earlier this week, the state pulled out of the common core state standards.

Florida was one of several states under a group called PARCC.

It was creating a nationwide test to be used next year.

Governor Scott now says the government is too involved through PARCC.

Governor Rick Scott said, "We are focused on continuing to raise our standards but say not to federal intrusion."

But not everyone agrees.

Teacher Heidi Smith said, “I'd like to see us move forward with PARCC. Why? So when we do have students who transfer from one state to another I have that common assessment."

Governor Scott wants the state to create its own test, but Florida's recent problems with the F-CAT have some wondering if the state can be trusted to do so.
