Gov. Scott Makes Christmas Eve Paid Holiday

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (AP) -- State workers will get Christmas Eve off as a paid holiday.

The Tallahassee Democrat reported Monday that Gov. Rick Scott has directed executive agencies to shut down on Monday, Dec. 24.

That will give workers a four-day weekend, rather than making them come back for one day and then having another day off.

Workers who perform essential functions will still have to work, but they'll get an equal amount of paid administrative leave to use in the next six months.

Scott similarly closed executive agency offices on Dec. 23, 2011, his first year in office. Former Gov. Charlie Crist granted state workers both Christmas Eve and New Year's Eve off with pay in 2008.
