MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) -- Gov. Robert Bentley has asked the president for federal assistance to help with damage caused by Hurricane Isaac.
The governor's initial request covers Baldwin, Mobile and Pickens counties, but the Alabama Emergency Management Agency says preliminary damage assessments are continuing in other counties.
A public assistance declaration by the president would provide help with debris removal, emergency protective measures, and the repair, replacement or restoration of publicly owned facilities and the facilities of some nonprofit organizations.
Bentley said the impact of Isaac in some areas was greater than the state and local resources that are available to help, and that's why he's seeking assistance from the Federal Emergency Management Agency.
