Girlfriend Hits Boyfriend With Car

When her boyfriend tried to get away from the situation, police say things got worse.

It’s all started around 5:30 Thursday night.
That's when a car ride turned into a crime scene.
Police say Jayela McShane was in the passenger seat of her boyfriend’s car when a fight got out of control.

“The driver an adult male, stopped the vehicle, exited the vehicle and began walking.” Dothan Police Sergeant Rachel David said.

Authorities say that's when Mcshane got behind the wheel.

“Moved over into the driver seat, circled back around and intentionally struck the victim.” David said.

David says the impact sent the victim over a bridge, and left him in critical condition.

“He does remain hospitalized for injuries of a broken neck, broken vertebrae, bruised lung, and various other smaller injuries throughout the body.” David said.

Officers say although this isn’t a typical example of domestic violence, legally it is.

“With domestic violence laws there are areas of the law that allow officers to make an onsite arrest even if it didn’t happen in our presence.” David said.

McShane was arrested 14-hours after the incident.

The victim's name has not been released.
He's still in critical condition, but stable.
McShane is being charged with attempted murder.
