GAINESVILLE, Ga. (AP) -- Lake Lanier north of Atlanta is more than nine feet below the full pool level, and the Army Corps of Engineers predicts it will drop another half foot by Oct. 12.
The Gainesville Times (bit.ly/PnBCT7) reports the lake hasn't been this low in mid-September since the drought of 2008.
The weather has been mostly dry lately, and the rains that fell during the summer didn't fall in the right places to fill the popular lake. The U.S. Drought Monitor says the Hall County area is s experiencing moderate to severe drought.
The executive director of the Gainesville-based Lake Lanier Association, Joanna Cloud, says she's anxious to see water development plans from the corps.
The lake has been one focus of the long-running water dispute between Georgia, Alabama and Florida.
