The Georgia Department of Education is teaming up with the Ritz Carlton to create more family-friendly schools.
Research shows when parents are involved in schools students earn higher grades, perform better on tests and have better social skills and behavior. There is also a link between students finishing high school and going to college.
Education officials say making families feel more welcome at schools is key to parental involvement. A group of Georgia educators went through training this weekend and learned about listening and asking parents how they want to be helped.
