Georgia Declares "Turn In Poachers Day"

ATLANTA (AP) -- Georgia wildlife authorities are warning against poaching ahead of the start of deer hunting season.

Gov. Nathan Deal has signed a proclamation declaring Oct. 20 as "Turn In Poachers Day." It coincides with the start of the firearms deer hunt in Georgia.

Hunters poach deer when they hunt outside legal hours, from a public road, kill too many animals or hunt in unauthorized areas.

Officials at the Department of Natural Resources say people reporting poaching should collect, if possible, enough information to describe the violation, the violator, when it happened and the vehicle the poacher was driving.
