COLUMBUS, Ga. (AP) -- A 22-year-old babysitter who worked five days a week for a Columbus family is facing charges she forged $14,200 of checks from her employer.
Melisa Janay Evans has pleaded not guilty to 20 charges of first-degree forgery.
The Columbus Ledger-Enquirer reports she was ordered held on a $50,000 bond after a court appearance on Thursday.
Columbus Cpl. Dechon Grant said at a court hearing that Evans' employers realized someone had taken and cashed several of their checks between October and March after examining their bank account.
Authorities zeroed in on Evans after watching the bank's security footage.
She could face up to 10 years in prison.
