SAVANNAH, Ga. (AP) -- Police in Savannah say an active duty Army soldier has been charged in the death of a Savannah tire store owner.
Savannah-Chatham Metropolitan police spokesman Julian Miller says Emanuel Perez surrendered to authorities Tuesday in the shooting death of 30-year-old Armondo Montes. Miller says Montes owned Brothers Tire Repair, where he was found fatally shot after a confrontation Tuesday afternoon.
Miller says 31-year-old Perez surrendered to military police at Hunter Army Air Field near the scene of the shooting shortly after the incident and is being held in the Chatham County Detention Center. It's unclear if he has an attorney and information on the motive that led to the slaying was not immediately available.
