GA. Woman Dies in Apartment Fire

FORT VALLEY, Ga. (AP) -- Authorities say a middle Georgia woman has died after a fire broke out in her apartment.

Reports suggest that Peach County firefighters found 65-year-old Charlie Mae Rogers in her upstairs bedroom after being dispatched to her Fort Valley apartment Tuesday.

Peach County Coroner Kerry Rooks says the woman died from smoke inhalation. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

The coroner says the fire apparently started at the woman's kitchen stove and then spread through the apartment.

The exact cause remains under investigation. The Georgia Bureau of Investigation is assisting Peach County authorities.
