GA Daycare Fingerprints

Daycare workers in Georgia will be required to pass fingerprint background checks next year.

The new requirements go into effect on January 1.

Childcare network operates nearly 70 schools across the state.

Administrators say implementing the background checks will cost about $75,000, but they say the sense of security it will bring is worth it.

Sally Rich, Director of Childcare at Childcare Network in Augusta.

We believe it's a good thing, because we don't want somebody coming from another state that has a record we're unaware of and coming to work for our organization. We want to make sure our children are safe at all times.

Georgia also has what's known as "Juan’s Law".

It requires daycares to tell you if they don't carry liability insurance.
