Here's proof that you can fry just about anything...

"The winner of the 2012 Big Tex Choice award for the best tasting new fried food is fried jambalaya by Abel Gonzales.

That's right ... fried jambalaya.

Gonzales celebrated his fifth fried food win on Monday in Dallas, Texas.

The competition is part of the State Fair, which opens later this month.

Gonzales' concoction is described as a Cajun combination of shrimp, sausage and seasonings which are fried to golden perfection. There's a spicy ranch sauce served on the side.

"I believe it's a match made in heaven," he says. "I mean, it's spicy just like the state fair."
(reporter) "Is there a sales goal?"
"Sales Goal? No, no, no. This was the goal. This is the goal."

Gonzales has won in the past for fried butter, fried Coke, fried cookie dough and a fried peanut butter, jelly and banana sandwich.

He says he gained 20 pounds while perfecting this year's recipe.
