ATLANTA —

A federal judge is in jail after he assaulted his wife, according to police.

Atlanta police spokeswoman Kim Jones confirmed that officers arrested U.S. District Judge Mark Fuller at a downtown hotel Saturday. Fuller sits on the Federal bench in the Middle District of Alabama, based in Montgomery.

Fuller, 55, was booked in Fulton County Jail at 2:34 a.m.

He is from Enterprise and formerly served as District Attorney for Coffee and Pike Counties.

Police said they responded to the Ritz Carlton on Peachtree Street at 11 p.m., where they spoke to a woman who said she was assaulted by her husband.

Officers observed injuries to the victim. She was treated on the scene but refused to be taken to a hospital. Fuller was not injured.

He was charged with battery and remains in jail without bond.
