Former Birmingham City Councilman Bert Miller Dies in Montgomery

BIRMINGHAM, Alabama. -- Former Birmingham City Councilman Bert Miller has died following an extended illness.

Miller served one term on the City Council, representing Birmingham's western area district 7 from 2001 to 2005.

Mayor William Bell said he learned of Miller's death this morning. Bell served with Miller on the council.

"Bert was a guy with a huge personality and he never let anything get him down," Bell said. "He was a people person."

Bell recalled last seeing Miller at Dreamland barbeque, where people often mistook him as the owner or at least the son of the owner because of his large stature and gregarious personality.

"As a friend I will miss him," Bell said. "My heart and sympathy goes out to the family."

Bertram "Bert" Miller graduated from Wenonah High School. He died at a Montgomery hospital.
