TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (AP) -- Florida's Agriculture Commissioner says his department will receive $5.4 million in federal funding to combat Giant African Land Snails and other invasive pests that affect the state's agriculture industry.

Adam Putnam said Friday that the money comes from the federal Farm Bill.

Among the programs in Florida that will be funded: Giant African Land Snail mitigation, detector dog inspections, citrus greening research, and honeybee pest and disease surveys.

The money will help strengthen pest surveillance, detection and identification.

Putnam says the Florida agriculture is a $108 billion industry.
