Florida Man Jumps off Bridge

Authorities say a southwest Florida man survived a suicide attempt, then convinced his roommate to drive him to the hospital and jumped off a bridge to his death.

Tampa Police said 47-year-old Michael Medina tried to kill himself at home Friday, but survived and convinced his roommate to drive him to the hospital.

Authorities did not describe Medina's injuries, but said he likely hid them from his roommate, covering them with a towel.

While on their way to the hospital, Medina refused to be taken to the nearest location and insisted on going to a hospital further away in Tampa.

Medina began struggling with his roommate, forcing the driver to stop the car abruptly on the Howard Frankland Bridge.

Medina jumped out of the car and into the bay.
