Due to the large amount of rainfall on Saturday, Aug. 17, raw sewage overflowed through a manhole at 7440 Chipewa Street, Callaway.
Approximately 7500 gallons of sewage flowed into a storm drain that empties into Callaway Bayou.
Sewage contamination of water can expose bathers to intestinal viruses, bacteria, and parasites.
The Florida Department of Health in Bay County advises against swimming in Callaway Bayou from Oak Ridge Drive to the entrance of East Bay until further notice.
For more information, you may contact the Florida Department of Health in Bay County at (850) 872-4660 Ext. 1268.
