Florala residents are "furious" with plans to build a halfway house for convicted sexual offenders on the outskirts of town:
Florala Mayor Robert Williamson put the matter on his Facebook page. Mayor Williamson says convicted sex offender Carl Lee Bender of Wetumpka was recently released from a state penitentiary for sodomizing a teenage girl.
The mayor says he's received information the 45-year-old plans to purchase land near the natural bridge community along the Covington Walton county line and build the "controversial" facility:
