Parents and students from all across Florida were in Tallahassee Wednesday calling for reform to failing public schools.

What they want to do is take power away from elected officials and give it to parents.

They claim laws to make it easier for charter schools to open aren't working because local school boards won't approve them.

So they want the legislature to pass a bill to let parents vote to turn a failing public school into a charter, but critics say that won't fix the failure.

Half of all the F's handed out to Florida schools last year were awarded to charters.
