Fla. Universities Low on Tuition, Loan Defaults

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (AP) -- President Barak Obama's college scorecard shows Florida's state universities generally rank low for tuition, borrowing and loan defaults.

The White House on Wednesday launched a website with that information as well as graduation percentages.

Annual costs for attending Florida's 11 state universities range from $9,225 for Florida International University to $12,502 at the University of South Florida.

Monthly borrowing amounts range from $142 at the University of West Florida to $224 at Florida A&M University. FAMU's 18 percent loan default rate is the only one among the Florida universities more than the 13 percent national average. The others are under 10 percent.

Six-year graduation rates for the Florida schools range from a low of 40 percent at FAMU to a high of 84 percent at the University of Florida.
