First Female 2-star General Honored in GA
A ceremony was held Sunday at Fort McPherson just south of
Atlanta to commemorate the promotion of Major Gen. Maria L. Britt.

FORT McPHERSON, Ga. (AP) - The Georgia Army National Guard is honoring its first female two-star general.
A ceremony was held Sunday at Fort McPherson just south of
Atlanta to commemorate the promotion of Major Gen. Maria L. Britt.
Britt, commander of the Georgia National Guard, got her second star last month.
She is the first female to hold that rank in the 278-year history of the state's guard.
Britt, a native of Gloversville, N.Y., became a brigadier general in 2007.
She graduated from West Point in 1983 and holds master's degrees from the U.S. Army War College and the Joint
Military College in strategic intelligence and strategic studies.
She is married to Col. Timothy B. Britt of Conyers.
The couple has three daughters.
