COFFEE COUNTY -- According to the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration regulations, as of May 21, 2014, all commercial drivers must obtain their FMCSA medical examination from a certified medical examiner listed on the National Registry.
Chiropractor and Certified Medical Examiner Dr. Donald Williams said the main idea behind standardized exams is safety.
"The main reason they did this was safety, the concerns of safety," Dr. Williams said. "They want to make sure that the roadways are safe and safe for those traveling."
Commercial truck drivers are required to get a certified exam every couple of years. If anyone is looking for a certified medical examiner in their area, below is a link to the website.
Practitioners can still get certified. They just cannot administer the certified exams until they have passed the certified examination and are on the National Registry.
