Fatal Crash on I-10 in La.

SULPHUR, La. (AP) -- State police are investigating an accident involving a pedestrian and a large truck on Interstate 10 about 2 1/2 miles east of Vinton that claimed the life of an Alabama man.

Sgt. James Anderson says accident happened Wednesday morning while the Calcasieu Parish Combined Anti-Drug Task Force was conducting a traffic stop.

Anderson says the driver of the vehicle, 27-year-old Matthew Quentin Tatum of Montgomery, Ala., was arrested after approximately four pounds of marijuana was located inside the trunk of his vehicle.

Anderson says Tatum, who was handcuffed, fled on foot into the eastbound lanes and was struck by an 18-wheeler.

Tatum was pronounced dead at the scene by the Calcasieu Parish Coroner's Office.
