Federal regulators are conducting a special inspection at Farley Nuclear Plant in Columbia.
The Nuclear Regulatory Commission says this follows an electrical failure earlier this month.
It happened during testing on electrical circuits on the plant's "unit-2" reactor.
The NRC says although the problem does not present an immediate safety threat, they shut down the reactor to investigate.
The plant is located near the Chattahoochee River.
