Family of Georgia Man Shot by Police Protests Response

About 40 people marched Friday to City Hall to protest District Attorney David Cooke's conclusion that Macon officer Clayton Sutton was justified in shooting 49-year-old Sammie Davis Jr. in a Kroger parking lot because the policeman feared for his life.

Former Mayor C. Jack Ellis and city Councilman Henry Gibson have joined Davis' family in asking the Justice Department to investigate whether his civil rights were violated.

One protester supporting Davis' family, Anthony Harris, tried to disrupt Mayor Robert Reichert's opening remarks Friday at the city's annual Cherry Blossom Festival and was led away by police.
