Now that Alabama’s list of failing schools is out, parents have the opportunity to apply for tax credits to transfer their child from a failing school to a private one.
Some school leaders expect few transfers, Alabama Christian Education Association expects less than 100 new members. Alabama Independent School Association has not heard of any students wanting to transfer.
This might be because the list is actually shorter than anticipated and Middle Schools make up most of that list. Another reason is that tax credits from those middle schools wouldn’t apply to high schools that child could eventually attention.
