Teen Loses Foot in Florida Boat Collision

DESTIN, Fla. (AP) -- Authorities say a teenager from Oklahoma lost a foot and suffered a serious head injury after his personal watercraft collided with a boat in the Florida Panhandle.

Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission officials say the boy's rented watercraft hit the stern of a 38-foot vessel in the waters off Destin on Sunday afternoon. His foot was cut off as his watercraft kept going and crashed into the boat's propeller.

Lt. Mark Hollinhead says that both the teen and the boat's operator tried to avoid the collision.

No other injuries were reported. Officials say the teen's name was not released because authorities had not yet spoken with his family.

The teen was hospitalized in Pensacola.
