Before work can be done to an area airport, one local city needs to have an environmental study performed.
This week the Enterprise City Council contracted with a company to go ahead with the study.
The federal aviation administration requires the study before the city's municipal airport runway can be extended.
Local officials say an additional thousand feet will accommodate the landing and take-off of C-130 military aircraft.
