Today students in the forensic science class at Enterprise High School conducted a mock, hands-on death investigation case.
They collected maggots and beetles from a deer carcass.
Instructor Sue Peacock says the animal took on the role of a human in the CSI investigation. The insects are analyzed in a science lab.
Peacock says it provides essential information on time of death.
"We are studying death," said Heather Grice, forensics student. "We have a deer over there, and the deer is suppose to represent a person. And the tests we are doing on the deer shows what forensic scientists have to do."
Several students say they now plan on majoring in criminal justice when they go to college.
