Elizabeth Smart Encourages Local Teachers

DOTHAN, AL--Hundreds of area teachers got an extra boost of confidence for the upcoming school year Friday.

The purpose of the event is to work on professional development.
Their first guest speaker was Elizabeth Smart.

"Really i want to talk about hope, that's my main message because each one of us we all have our trials in life,
But we can overcome them and we don't have to allow them to pull us back," said Elizabeth Smart.

"To me there's no better way to do professional development than to have people like Elizabeth Smart tell her story about perseverance and never giving up on a child," said Superintendent Tim Wilder.

The teachers also learned about gang awareness and how to identify one.
